Is an Open Office Plan a Good Idea?

According to an online survey conducted by by Christina Rexrode of the Wall Street Journal‘s blog, the open office plan is not a good idea. Based on an online survey, 73% had experienced working in an open office and 67% had found it bad for productivity.  Hotdesking, where you have unassigned desks, was found to be unfavorable by 82% of those taking the survey.

Among New York’s top 5 commercial banks, even Citigroup has decided to go to open office environment. Not even the CEO will have his own office. Bloomberg was the first of financial service firms to start this trend. Banks have not done as well as other industries since the financial crisis and this may be a way reduce expenses.
